Studio Policies Vocal Inclusion 2023/2024
My Responsibility
I will teach the student the language of music. l teach music with this single purpose: so my students will be able to give voice to that which they cannot say and for which they have no words. My studio has a positive and enthusiastic environment. I will tailor the curriculum to match the student’s specific learning needs.
Student and Family Responsibility
Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with their music. To make good progress, quality practice is necessary, three to five days a week. I want your to completely understand every assignment. Please ask questions.
If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. Please err on the side of letting me know more so I can be sensitive to the needs of your child. A quick text on the way to lesson can make the difference between a great lesson and a difficult one. (Did Max just find out that he didn't get the part in the play? Give me a heads up. Was Jane hospitalized on your recent trip to Thailand? Let me know!)
All students are encouraged to perform on one recital per year!
Tuition
Tuition covers not only the actual lesson time spent with the student, but time preparing for each student as well.
This includes:
Registration Fee of $25 collected at first lesson of the season Fall/Winter and Winter/Spring (twice a year)
Each student pays a non-refundable registration fee. This pays for the cost of running the music studio as well as the time spent doing things in addition to actual teaching:
When students enroll, they are reserving their place in the studio for the entire year. Students and vocal coach have the right at any time to discontinue lessons. Please note, if a student misses more than two lessons without giving me notice, that may cause dismissal from the studio.
Tuition fee
Payment is due at the start of each lesson. Those families who choose to pay monthly instead of by lesson, realize that if their student misses a lesson, there will be no refund or add on of a free lesson to another month.
Cancellations
Photo and Video release
I have a Teaching Tips Page on Facebook as well as my own website at www.vocalinclusion.weebly.com From time to time I use photos and short videos of my students on these sites. These videos and posts are helpful to other teachers and much appreciated. If you do not want your child's image(s) to be used, please let me know. In general, the students love to see their pictures and videos on my website or teaching page. They find it motivating and exciting to think that others want to know what they are learning.

About Dianna Swenson |
Dianna Swenson, who is a daughter of God first, wife, mother of two, and owner of Vocal Inclusion, received her bachelor degree in music education with vocal performance numbering from Old Dominion University. She has performed on numerous stages which include Sandler Center for the Performing Arts and Little Theatre of Virginia Beach. From her home business, she teaches approximately 30 students of all abilities, that range from ages 6 to 40, many of which have had leads in local shows produced by the Hurrah Players, Little Theatre of Virginia Beach,Virginia Arts Festival, and Virginia Musical Theatre. Currently, Dianna has her first student on Broadway Tour as Annie! She has helped several students get into Salem Academy and GSA. The passion she has for inclusion of those with differing abilities began with her oldest child, who has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal. Her neuro-typical daughter also performs in the arts. Through these merging relationships, she has discovered how music reaches all abilities and provides a catalyst for confidence. Since 2003, Dianna has done work with people with disabilities in many forums including, Ability Center, RavensWay, Arts Inclusion Company which she originally co-founded, The Chosen Ministries, and Glee Club leader for the Vanguard Landing Sound Waves. She currently runs an inclusion class at Hurrah Players. Dianna is well-known as a purposeful advocate for inclusion in the arts, especially music and theatre. She currently serves as the main-stage musical director at the Hurrah Players under the direction of Hugh Copeland. She continues to believe that community is for all the people, and therefor all the people should be encouraged to express themselves through the arts.
